Wolves in Alicante: Nathan Judah’s Tour Diary – Day 5

Wolf Tour Diary

We’ll of course cover Wolves’ opener against Alaves and Saturday’s clash with Besiktas.

We will also be in training tomorrow night and watch the behind-closed-doors game with Levante on Thursday.

Spend an interview with Nathan Collins on Friday and you have a full six days before we return home on Sunday.

LK: We certainly stay busy! We have Wolves to thank for providing brilliant access and allowing us to give this kind of information to our supporters.

Bruno gave Wolves a much needed day off on Sunday.

The team isn’t told about the next day’s plans until the night before, so I’m sure they were happy to have some time off.

Drive to impress

While half went go-karting (won by Morgan Gibbs-White ahead of Connor Ronan and Conor Coady), the others took a private yacht to soak up the sun and top up their tans.

It will come as no surprise to know that myself and Liam would have chosen different activities had the opportunity presented itself!

Dip the spokes

One member of the squad who has impressed many with his performance and attitude here is the new number two – Matija Sarkic.

Fresh off a new three-year deal, the Montenegrin international has enjoyed excellent loan spells at Shrewsbury and Birmingham City.

So it was great to have an exclusive session with the youngster.

LK: It was a really nice interview with a (rather) young player who is determined to impress. As Judah says below, he was confident without being pushy and quickly put himself at ease during the interview, which made the conversation even better.

I have been in and around football clubs for over 16 years doing this job – rarely have I met a young man so confident in his own abilities and his future at the club.

He’s ambitious but incredibly respectful at the same time… make no mistake, Sarkic isn’t here just to make up numbers.

He wants to push Jose Sa all the way for the number one shirt and while it will prove a difficult task, the fact that he’s not just making the team’s bizarre first cup appearance is a testament to his temper.

Liam’s full interview will be published in the newspaper and online later this week – don’t miss it!

After a good few hours at the Wolves training base, we were in our first big supermarket of the trip.

Unfortunately for me, there was no Harrods grocery store in Benidorm despite countless Google searches.

I had never been to a Lidl before, but they had quality products!

Meet Lidl for two

We bought a few items not really knowing what they really were, but it will be a nice surprise for Liam after his anchovies on toast on the first night!

LK: It won’t shock you to hear that I stayed away from the anchovies the first night, and I will stay away for the rest of the week, because Judah unfortunately bought more… He was skeptical about Lidl but insisted it was good and glad he changed his mind!

Finally late in the day, Liam learned that Fabio Silva’s loan for the season to Anderlecht had been agreed with the striker undergoing his medical in Belgium.

Tomorrow, on his 20th birthday, the deal will be announced with the Portuguese striker signing a one-year extension to his contract with Wolves with a club option of a further year.
