Head coach Frank Yallop has added another attacking midfielder to the Monterey Bay FC roster.

Earlier this week the club announced the signing of Jiro Barriga Toyama, who spent the last three seasons with USL League One Forward Madison FC. Yallop was impressed with his ability to launch attacks as well as his willingness to fall back to help defenders.

“He’s a versatile southpaw who is exciting to dribble and will create chances for the team,” explained the coach.

After a college career at Gulf Coast University in Florida, Barriga Toyama was called up to Minnesota United FC of MLS for a tryout. He impressed them in a pre-season friendly, scoring a hat trick. The club sent him to its USL branch in Wisconsin to gain experience.

Barriga Toyama has made 58 appearances for Forward Madison.

Monterey Bay FC open their inaugural road season on March 12 against Phoenix Rising FC.
