Plymouth Albion to host Rosslyn Park in 2021/22 season opener
Weeks are really flying by in Plymouth Albion, and events are unfolding quickly, so this week I’ll be talking a bit about what we have in store for this month.
So sharpen those pencils, get out your diaries, and jot down those dates!
Last weekend we hosted “Plymouth’s Biggest Beer Garden” on the team’s first field. It’s safe to say it was successful despite a few rain showers here and there, but then again, what would a trip to Brickfields be without rain ?!
It was great to see so many new faces at the club, as well as our loyal supporters, showing up at every event we host in support – we are so grateful to them!
The beverage supplier, LWC, also brought in the cavalry. They kindly provided service and bar support so thank you Kirsty and the team it was a great day!
Anyway, let’s go back to the dates to insert in your agenda:
May 14 (to be confirmed): After the success of the first one, we hope to have another “Plymouth’s Biggest Beer Garden”. Tickets will be available online on eventbrite as well as a few on the portal and they will be priced at £ 30 per table of 6, and that will include your first free drink – a steal!
May 21: As you may have seen, we are delighted to host the event; “An evening with Warren Gatland”. The Lions tour coach will travel to Brickfields before leaving for South Africa and provide insight into the preparation and tactics of his chosen squad.
For obvious reasons, this is proving to be a sought-after event, and we have had a few inquiries regarding the purchase of tables for the event. However, this event is hosted by Concierge UK and you will only be able to purchase tickets online from them at www.tickettailor.com and search for the event.
Catering for this event is provided by the fabulous Ben Palmer and the team at The Greedy Goose.
Ben is renowned in the South West for his delicious cuisine and in addition to providing outside catering, he operates two restaurants, Platos in Plymouth and The Sardine Factory in Looe.
We are delighted that Ben took the time to help us with event catering as well as hospitality, thank you Ben!
May 30: Lazy Sunday Market, hosted by Miss Ivy Events. We managed to host one of these markets on the upper ground, in September 2020 and it was a gloriously sunny day.
These types of events are a great opportunity to support local businesses and to socialize with friends and families in (hopefully) better times! The ‘horse bar’ will be back along with some delicious food stalls, so bring a picnic blanket and hop off.
All of these events prove that we are putting Albion back on the map of Plymouth and making it the place to visit, a community center where visitors feel safe and have fun.
We also accept bookings for private functions so please feel free to contact us if you would like to book a function at Albion as we have a number of free appointments now.
There hasn’t been a lot to report when it comes to the board as everyone is busy getting ready for the season ahead.
Max (Venables) and Damien (Welch) have worked hard to get the best possible squad for the 2021/22 season and we have now received our matches, which will be released very soon. Rugby is back !!
While vowed to keep the fixtures a secret, I can let you know that the first game of the season after more than a year without rugby will be AT HOME on September 4th and we will play at Rosslyn Park in London. I can’t wait!
Finally, don’t forget that our new cafe is open daily from 8am to 2pm and serves teas and coffees (from our chic new coffee maker) and a range of snacks from the kitchen.
As previously mentioned, we are now hosting a Covid-19 Vaccination Center in our SW Comms suite and need the help of volunteers to help direct the traffic.
The shifts are 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Mark ([email protected]), any help is appreciated.
In this column, I will be talking about my experiences at Albion and would love to hear any questions you might have about what is going on behind the scenes and I would love to hear some comments.
Email me at [email protected] Until then, stay safe! Ellie.
