(Portland, ME) In collaboration with the Maine Jewish Museum, Opera in the Pines will present two shows from The Diary of Anne Frank. Based on the original text of the famous diary Anne kept while hiding with her family in the attic of her father’s office building in Amsterdam between 1942 and 1944, this monodramatic opera in 21 scenes is a deeply moving story of a high-spirited young girl — her willingness to stay brave in the face of unimaginable fear, her joy at the sight of blue skies, her budding attraction to Peter, her remarkable sense of humor, and her endless hope end of freedom – until his story is tragically cut short.
This production will proudly feature an all-female creative team, including Rachel Policar (National Yiddish Theater Folksbiene) in the title role of Anne Frank, and pianist Tina Davis (Artist Faculty in Piano at the University of Southern Maine).
The performances take place on May 5 and 7 at 7:00 p.m. For tickets, please visit operainthepines.com.
