NMDC celebrates 8th International Yoga Day – Odisha Journal


New Delhi: Ambassador of the Fit India Movement, the mining major NMDC celebrated the 8e International Yoga Day today at its headquarters in Hyderabad. Led by CMD Company Shri Sumit Deb with Director (Finance) Shri Amitava Mukherjee and Director (Production) Shri Dilip Kumar Mohanty, the employees practiced yoga poses and kriya pranayama demonstrated by teachers from Namaste India Foundation, Hyderabad. A tribute to the ancient Indian tradition of yoga, the event emphasized the role of yoga in achieving mental well-being in tandem with the theme of IDY 2022 – “Yoga for Humanity”.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sumit Deb said, “By fueling our journey towards fitness and oneness with nature, yoga empowers us with both physical agility and mental strength. I encourage the NMDC family to cultivate a commitment to yoga in their lifestyle. This will translate into a commitment to yourself, your work and the nation.

The NMDC regularly organizes marathons, walkathons, sports tournaments and yoga sessions to promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. During the IDY 2022 celebrations, the company also congratulated the monthly winners of the NMDC Impact League, a gamified walking challenge for its employees and their family members that started on January 26, 2022 and will continue until in August 2022. As of April 2022, NMDC has engaged Namaste India Foundation, Hyderabad to conduct training and yoga practice sessions for employees. Similar yoga sessions are held in other NMDC projects involving employees, their families and local people. An online yoga demo link has also been shared with employees so they can practice yoga from home.
