Microsoft to expand support for Windows 10 color management
All-new Home windows Insider build reveals that Microsoft is working to expand color administration help in Windows Home for artistic purposes that work against HDR.
“HDR mode adjusts the behavior of certain artistic and creative applications that use the Worldwide Shade Consortium (ICC) to display color profiles, equivalent to Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom Basic, and CorelDraw (among others),” Microsoft notes in an article by blog. “Until now, these applications have been limited to focusing on the sRGB color gamut.”
The change can be achieved in Windows 10 Insider Preview build 21382, which released last night to Dev Channel testers. As you may know, the Dev Channel isn’t targeting a selected Windows Home model, so it’s unclear when it will appear in Windows Home, and whether or not that transformation will target a number of Windows 10 Home variants.
Based on Microsoft, customers will be able to replace the color administration know-how used by individual applications. Unfortunately, this is done via a reasonably old style and an undiscoverable compatibility interface. To find it, you need to find the application’s .exe file – in itself a generally tedious activity – right-click on it, select Properties, and then go to the Compatibility tab. There, under Settings, you will see a new choice, “Use legacy exposure ICC color administration”.
