One day tribute to the maestro of Sarod
A one-day tribute concert titled “Tribute to Legend – Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ali Akbar Khan Saheb – Celebrating 100 Years” was held on April 17 at Science City Mini Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The event in tribute to the maestro of Sarod, internationally recognized as “Swara Samra” and dean of classical music Hundustani, was organized by the Annapurna Devi Foundation with the Aashish Khan School of World Music in association with the Calcutta Performing Arts Foundation. The day-long concert celebrating the legend’s 100th birthday brought together a wide range of artists from the Maihar Senia Gharana.

IIT-Kharagpur faces accommodation constraints
IIT Kharagpur has been forced to stagger the arrival of freshmen, who are taking online courses, due to lack of on-campus accommodation, institute officials have said. The authorities of the institute have asked teachers to draw up a list of students with limited resources from the promotion of 2021 in order to integrate them as soon as possible. In an email, the institute informed students: “There are issues regarding accommodation for all students, but we hope to resolve them as soon as possible.” An official said 20 to 25 freshmen had written to the dean of students about connectivity issues at home. The promotion has approximately 1,900 students.

Police officer arrested for assaulting minor
A Kolkata Police Reserve Force constable has been arrested for sexually assaulting an underage, deaf and hard of hearing girl while traveling by auto rickshaw in North Kolkata. According to police, the underage girl and her mother boarded the rickshaw at Khanna Crossing and were heading towards Ultadanga. “The accused has been identified as Debu Mondal. Mondal allegedly touched the girl inappropriately and she alerted her mother who, with the help of the car driver, took the accused to the Maniktala police station,” a police officer said. Mondal has been suspended from duty in accordance with protocol for government employees
